Stephen Perry Smith Architects, Inc. was founded by Stephen Perry Smith in 1992 as a development, design, and construction consulting firm. Smith established the business model to include master planning, consulting on numerous business parks, and designing commercial office and light industrial buildings. Over the years, he also provided owner representation services for the design and construction of parking structures and schools, as well as lender representation for numerous multifamily developments.

Stephen Perry Smith Architects’ portfolio is a testament to the collective expertise of its talented team, showcasing projects that reflect innovation and thoughtful design. Its founder feels honored to serve clients and collaborate with professionals across the industry.

Steve Smith graduated from the University of Illinois School of Architecture in 1977, gaining extensive experience in both office-based design and on-site project management. In the 1980s, he served as the in-house architect and construction manager for Trammell Crow Company, overseeing the design and construction of approximately three million square feet of commercial space. His portfolio from this period includes the 30-story Milwaukee Center mixed-use development and several business parks, including Park Place and Brookfield Lakes Corporate Center.

In the early 1990s, Steve acted as the on-site project manager for The Rubin Companies, leading the development of 1000 North Water Street, a 24-story mixed-use project in downtown Milwaukee.

Today, Steve resides in Mequon with his wife, Alex, and enjoys spending time at their part-time home in the mountains of North Carolina. A Mequon resident for over 35 years, he is the proud father of four daughters, two stepdaughters, and a stepson—all of whom have moved out of the house. Now, he enjoys the company of his two dogs. Beyond his family, Steve considers his employees an extension of his family and feels grateful to work alongside such a talented and dedicated team.
